Culture

Going to a theatrical performance, a concert, an exhibition, or a film screening is one of the ways in which people participate in social life. This form of participation also helps individuals to experience personal growth. Your financial support enables the Catholic Church to take part in discussions about the key issues of our time. Taking part in debates is one of the ways in which Christian values can be made the subject of a discussion, thereby also enabling people to experience their faith in everyday life. Church architecture has for centuries been playing its part in doing something similar—i.e. reflecting the general trends of architectural history.

4 film festivals

and a range of film productions regularly receive assistance from us—their partners. Since 2017, we and the Reformed Church have been awarding the Churches’ Film Award in the context of Zurich Film Festival. We also support the Human Rights Film Festival Zurich, the Jewish film festival Yesh! and the Arab Film Festival Zurich as well as a range of smaller film productions.

75 church choirs

have thousands of enthusiastic singers among their members. Singing is good for the body and the mind. Our parishes therefore set great store by church music. In most parishes there are choirs who meet to sing together. This can be a traditional church choir, a children’s or youth choir, a gospel choir, or a mixed ecumenical choir.

12,500,000 Swiss francs

is the total amount spent by church congregations and the Cantonal Church for cultural projects. This sum goes towards financing and co-supporting concerts, theatrical performances, cinematic art, exhibitions, books and cultural events.
