One of the essential tasks of the Catholic Church in the Canton of Zurich is to care for people’s well-being—both in the Canton and beyond. The 74 church congregations and the cantonal church together have about 220 million Swiss francs at their disposal each year.
You pay church tax, and this money enables us to provide pastoral care, and counseling. We provide pastoral care, and counseling in 95 parishes, in retirement and care homes, children’s homes or similar institutions, and in hospitals and counseling centers. Roughly half our receipts go towards supporting social projects, educational activities, and cultural initiatives, or are disbursed to local businesses for construction and maintenance work done by them. We also support poor and marginalized people, and refugees. Especially in times of crisis—for instance during wars, climate disasters, or during pandemics like the covid pandemic—our focus is on people whose life is particularly affected by such occurrences.
